TIMOR LESTE LAW REVIEW (TLREV)

Timor Leste Law Review (TLREV) is an open-access law journal first published in 2026 by the Master’s Program in Law at Universidade Dili, Timor-Leste. It is compiled by the academic community — including both lecturers and students — to address the severe shortage of books and scholarly publications on Timor-Leste’s legal system that are available in English, for both domestic and international readers.

Scope of Study

This journal publishes ideas and research findings examining a wide range of topics, including:

1.    Latest developments in legal studies, social problems, and relevant contemporary issues;

2.    Institutional changes and governance practices, both within Timor-Leste and in other countries;

3.    Legal dynamics across the ASEAN region and the broader Global South. This focus is established in response to Timor-Leste’s membership in ASEAN, as well as recognition of global challenges and the increasingly close legal interactions among developing countries.

Objectives

Timor Leste Law Review (TLREV) has the following core objectives:

1.     To serve as an open publication venue for thinkers, researchers, and academics from around the world, not limited to those based in Timor-Leste;

2.     To fill the gap in English-language scholarly literature on Timor-Leste’s legal system, making such materials accessible and useful to the international academic community;

3.     To provide a platform for academic dialogue and the exchange of ideas among academics, researchers, and professionals, with a primary focus on perspectives from the Global South;

4.     To encourage the use of comparative, multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and other legal research approaches that can enrich and expand the scope of legal scholarship, both in this region and across all countries of the Global South.
